B.C.’s EV charger rebate program
Through the CleanBC program, BC Hydro and the provincial government are offering rebates for the purchase AND installation of EV chargers. Single family homes:
50% of purchase AND installation of a Level 2 EV charger ($350.00 max).
Apartment and condo buildings:
EV Ready plan rebate: Up to $3,000.00 for a plan to make at least one parking stall per resident capable of EV charging
EV Ready infrastructure rebate: Install your infrastructure required to implement your EV Ready plan and receive up to $600.00 per parking space ($80,000 max).
EV charger rebate: Up to $1,400.00 per Level 2 charger purchased and installed to implement your buildings EV Ready plan ($14,000 max).
Standalone EV charger rebate: Up to $2,000.00 per Level 2 charger purchased and installed ($14,000 max).
Workplaces:
Up to $2,000.00 per Level 2 networked EV charger for employee use, pre-approval required ($14,000 max).
The types of chargers
Level 1 charger
Used mostly in homes, the Level 1 charger utilizes a 120-volt outlet to provide a 12-20 hour full charge. (6-12 hours for hybrid)
Level 2 charger
Used in residential and commercial applications, the Level 2 charger utilizes a 240-volt to provide a 6-14 hour full charge. (4-8 hours for hybrid)
Level 3 charger
Used mostly for businesses and common areas, the Level 3 charger or “fast charger” utilizes a 240 or 480-volt outlet and delivers a full charge in 1-4 hours.
The Tesla “supercharger” is available for eligible vehicles and delivers a 50% charge in 20 minutes.
